Guy Calaf is born in Italy in 1978, currently living in New York City. In 1997 he moved to Milan, where he studied and worked until late 2003. He received a degree in Communication Science from an Italian university in November 2003 upon the completion of a thesis project focusing on the semiotics of Vietnam War photography. In early 2002 he completed a professional photography course in Milan. Since 2003 Guy's work has been focused on conflicts and social issues, mainly in the Middle East and Africa. He moved to Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, in 2006 to concentrate on contemporary African issues while working for his editorial clients. In mid 2009 Guy moved to New York where he will live for 3 years while his wife completes her postgraduate studies. Guy's award winning photography has been published widely in the international press and exhibited in Milan, New York, Paris and London.
